Warrine W. Terpening of Hermiston died on Oct. 1, 2022 in Pendleton at the age of 54.
She was born on July 20, 1968 in Hamilton, Mont.
Warrine spent her childhood years in Montana before moving to Hermiston in elementary school. She graduated from Hermiston High School in the class of 1986. Warrine completed her associate degree in criminal justice from Blue Mountain Community College and was only a couple of credits away from her bachelor’s degree. She began her career at Eastern Oregon Corrections Institution on Aug. 17, 2011. She worked in various positions, ranging from office specialist 2 at the reception desk to executive support specialist 1 for general services until April 7, 2021.
Warrine cherished time spent playing with her granddaughter and shopping for her, and never missed an opportunity to boast to others about her children. She enjoyed karaoke, fishing, criminal investigation, true crime novels, animals and traveling. Warrine was the “Best Advice Giver,” but not necessarily the best advice taker. She had a huge personality and was always the center of attention.
She was an enrolled member of Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux tribes in Poplar, Mont. and a descendent of the Standing Rock Sioux.
She is survived by her daughter, Anna Catherine Cambell (husband A.J. Koester), Portland; son, Jonathan Cambell (wife Kashel), Hermiston; granddaughter, Kalissa; brother, Quin McConnell (wife Rhana), Hermiston; sister, Angel McConnell (Ryan Meier), Stanfield; aunt, Aurellia Richey, Spokane, Wash.; step children, Kristina, Cheryl and Michael; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Warrine was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Beverly J. “Bev” (Owns Medicine) McConnell and her brother, James “Shawn” Own Medicine.
A private family celebration will be held.
