Umatilla County Search and Rescue will host the 2023 Eastern Oregon Regional Training beginning today and continuing through Sunday June 4.

Search and Rescue volunteers and program managers from multiple counties and the Civil Air Patrol have signed up to participate in a scenario-based training, with real-time instruction and coaching. The training base camp will be located at Camp Meadowood Springs, near Tollgate.

The type of mock scenario is not being released at this time so that the training can be as “realistic” as possible. Once the training begins, scenarios will be provided to the participants and they will problem solve as they go, while embedded mentors within each group will monitor and provide guidance as needed.

The goal is to have all that participate in the training leave with a much better understanding of how more complex incidents should be managed and to improve field skills. In addition to working the mock scenario training, classes for specific skill sets will also be provided.

Participants include more than 60 personnel from Umatill, Baker, Wallowa, Union, Grant, Harney, Gilliam, and Civil Air Patrol.
