Dorothy Vetter Passes Away at 87

Dorothy Joan Vetter of Hermiston passed away at her home in Hermiston
surrounded by her family on June 14, 2023 at the age of 87.

She was born on Feb. 2, 1936 in Emmett, Idaho to Dallas and Lena Thompson
Queen.

As a child Dorothy moved with her family to Walla Walla, Wash., where she lived
for several years. She attended high school at McLoughlin High School in Milton-
Freewater, graduating in the class of 1954.

Dorothy moved to the Stanfield and Hermiston areas in the early 1970s, where
she had lived until her passing. She worked as a bookkeeper, payroll clerk and
tax preparer for Virginia Vincent for many years. She also worked as a
bookkeeper for the Umatilla Baptist Church for several years.

She enjoyed learning and continued taking college courses throughout much of
her lifetime. She also enjoyed painting, sewing, camping and hunting. She also
enjoyed being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Dorothy married Ronald Moon and the couple had four children. They divorced
several years later. She married Julius “Jay” Vetter on April 22, 1970 in
Portland.

She is survived by four children, Ron Moon, Pamela Moon-Mayberry, Diane
Eveland and Christine Howell; two step-daughters, Viki Desler and Jan Schroth;
12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and several extended family
members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius on Sept. 22, 2020 and a
grandson, Gary Powney Jr.
