Darlene Cook Passes Away at 81

Darlene F. Hastings Cook of Hermiston died on June 29, 2023 in College Place, Wash. at the age of 81.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1941 in Walla Walla, Wash. to Glenn and Erma Millett Hastings.

Her family moved from Walla Walla, Wash. to Stanfield in 1953. Darlene graduated from Stanfield High School in 1959. She married Virgil “Luckie” Cook in August 1965 in Connell, Wash. Darlene worked at the Sears Catalog Store for 18 years, and later at Wilcox Furniture, PGG and Bi-Mart, all in Hermiston, until she retired. She loved visiting with people, so customer service was a perfect fit for her. Darlene enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, camping, and baking goodies for her biological grandchildren, as well as her neighborhood grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie Mudd (Pat Matz), College Place, Wash. and Monique Larkin (John), Hermiston; sister, Glenda Sparkman, Port Orchard, Wash.; grandchildren, Ryan Mudd, Neal Mudd (Brittany), Nicholas Mudd, Patricia Matz, Ashlei Munoz (Tim), Cody (Josi) Larkin and Hayden Larkin; great-grandchildren, Logan, Ariel, Jenna, Nadine, Malayna, Joanna, Carter, Ricky, Timmy, Riley, Joseph, Jameson, Maggie, Kaleah and Parker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Joyce Grogan; and a brother, Leland Hastings.

Viewing will be on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 3 until 5 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.

Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
