The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office will conduct enhanced patrols on during the Memorial Day weekend, May 26-29.

Deputies will focus on drivers who are intoxicated or engaging in distracted driving.

In 2015, there were 10,265 alcohol-impaired driving fatalities in the United States. A total of 363 occurred in Oregon.

The primary intent of these DUII/High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) events is to increase the sheriff office’s presence in the community, and to prevent deaths from impaired drivers. The deputies of the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office are trained to recognize the signs of persons who are not only impaired by alcohol, but also by legal and illegal drugs, including prescriptions.

These events are funded through a grant from the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association.

Report suspected drunk drivers by calling 541‐966‐3650, or 911 if it appears to be an emergency.
