Active shooter training was one of the topics covered at the April 1 Umatilla Special Library District (UCSLD) In-Service Training held at the Hermiston Public Library.

More than 45 staff members from the public libraries in Umatilla County attended the daylong event.

The morning session was devoted to CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training, presented by the Hermiston Police Department. Participants were instructed in ADD (Avoid, Deny, Defend) principles. Avoid – if possible avoid the shooter and escape. Deny – deny the shooter access to victims by locking or barricading doors. Defend – as a last resort, defend one’s self should you come into face-to-face contact with the shooter.

Attendees were given tips in each area.
