The Oregon Department of Transportation is constructing improvements along 11th Street in Hermiston at the Orchard Street and Elm Street intersections.

Updates include new or upgraded traffic signals, and sidewalk modifications.

Construction began mid-March and is scheduled to be completed before the end of November. Motorists can expect lane closures, pedestrian detours, flaggers, crews and equipment in the area, plus delays of up to 20 minutes at times.

Pioneer Construction, based out of Pendleton, was awarded the $2,212,700 contract to construct the upgrades. The project will improve traffic safety and flow along 11th Street and connecting side streets.

All travelers in the work zone are cautioned to slow down and watch for other motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Be mindful of traffic pattern changes due to the work zone configuration and pay extra attention while driving through the area. Traffic fines are double the amount in all construction zones.
