The Umatilla County Historical Society recently received a $10,000 grant from the Pendleton Foundation Trust to replace the roof of its Community Thrift Shop Building.
Mike and Jill Thorne also gave a matching donation to the project, with an additional donation by Tom and Patti Winn. Royal Crown Roofing of Pendleton, who completed the work, generously replaced a skylight that was discovered in need of replacement mid project at no cost to the Historical Society.
Eastern Oregon Business Source Community Development Coordinator Karen Willis wrote the Pendleton Foundation Trust grant. The Community Thrift Shop, which is operated by the Umatilla County Historical Society, moved to its current location in 2015 and underwent a major rebranding and marketing project to label it as a boutique shopping experience at resale prices.
The Community Thrift Shop is now a thriving part of the Pendleton Downtown community and a popular tourist destination.
“Our community thrift shop generates a significant portion of the Historical Society ‘s annual revenue and helps to insure Umatilla County history is told and retold,” said board president Tom Winn. An engraved plaque recognizing a previous contribution by the Pendleton Foundation Trust is currently displayed on the exterior of the Community Thrift Shop building. A new plaque, in the same location, recognizing both past and new contributions, will replace the existing plaque.
The Pendleton Foundation Trust is a non-profit, charitable organization that was founded in May, 1928. Its purpose is to assist, encourage and promote the well-being of the citizens and inhabitants of the city of Pendleton.
