A 19-year-old man from Walla Walla faces a murder charge for allegedly killing an 18-year-old early Saturday morning in Milton-Freewater.
Manuel Adam Peralez Jr. was arrested Sunday morning by the Milton-Freewater Police Department and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Jason Samuel Warner of Milton-Freewater.
The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Oregon State Police and Milton-Freewater police, responded shortly after midnight on Saturday to reports of shots fired at a residence in the 84000 block of Yellow Jacket Road in Milton-Freewater. Initial reports indicated two people had been shot.
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation on scene showed, prior to law enforcement’s arrival, people at the residence left and transported Warner, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, to Providence St Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash., where he was pronounced dead.
The shooting, according to the sheriff’s office, followed an alleged altercation during a party at the residence.
A single suspect was identified as Peralez Jr., who, on Sunday around 11 a.m., walked into the Milton-Freewater Police Department where he was arrested and later lodged in the Umatilla County Jail.
Also working with the UCSO on the investigation are the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office, Walla Walla Police Department, Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office, and Pasco Police Department.
The investigation remains ongoing.
