Melon Fest returns to downtown Hermiston this Saturday with a full day of family-friendly fun celebrating the region’s iconic watermelons and the Hermiston community.
The Melon Fest event takes place on Main Street and Festival Street from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 with free watermelon, musical performances, more than 25 vendors, and contests and activities all day long, including:
- Watermelon costume contest at 10:30 a.m., sponsored by Christianson Realty Group, with prizes of $300 for first, $200 for second, and $100 for third.
- Watermelon seed spitting contest at 11 a.m.
- Watermelon eating contest at noon
- Bathtub races at 1 p.m.
“The Hermiston Downtown District has grown this event each year to celebrate the watermelon harvest and to bring people out to enjoy a slice together,” said Brandon Artz, Hermiston Parks & Recreation Director.
