A man was arrested Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20, along Highway 84 near Hermiston on suspicion of stabbing his ex-wife that morning in Beaverton.
According to reports, Oregon State Police officers found Alfonzo Terrell Merritt, 50, at 12:45 p.m. near a rest area off the highway. The suspect’s ex-wife Julie Ann Frazier-Merritt, 48, had accused him of stabbing her multiple times at 9:43 a.m. in Beaverton.
Beaverton Police Department personnel found Frazier-Merritt lying outside Springbrook Apartments that morning with multiple wounds. Reports indicated that her alleged attacker fled the scene in a green 2002 Toyota Camry with Indiana license plates after an armed neighbor confronted him.
Frazier-Merritt told police her ex-husband, upon whom she had a restraining order, had attacked her. She was taken to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Alfonzo Merritt was transported to Umatilla County Jail on charges of first-degree assault, attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
