Two vehicles crashed Monday, July 8, on state roads on opposite sides of Umatilla County. The first happened early in the morning, Oregon State Police reported, and ejected the driver.

Breanna Herrera, 21, of Milton-Freewater, was the lone occupant of a Honda Fit that rolled on the northbound lane of Highway 11 less than 2 miles from Milton-Freewater. The crash threw her out of the car.

By the time the police arrived, the driver, Herrera had already been picked up and transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. Upon her father’s request, according to OSP, an aircraft ambulance flew her to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

State police reported Herrera suffered a broken neck and pelvis.

The second crash occurred late that evening near milepost 8 on Interstate 82 West in Hermiston when a Freightliner semitrailer flipped onto its side.

The driver, Soce Gaye, 38, of Cincinnati, Ohio, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston.

OSP also reported the crash prompted the closure of the freeway for several hours for clean up.
