Adults and youngsters, alike, can participate in activities throughout November during programs offered by the Hermiston Public Library. They are free of charge and registration is not required.
‘Tis the season for pumpkin spice — adults can pick up a scented candle take-and-make kit on Nov. 4, beginning at 11 a.m. at the old Carnegie Building, 215 E. Gladys Ave. — gain access at the rear of the building.
The kids’ version of take-and-make has two dates: Nov. 8 provides everything needed to create a fall masterpiece and Nov. 22 will focus on learning the gift of gratitude. Both kits are available starting at 11 a.m. while supplies last.
Bookminders, the library’s book club, meets on Nov. 12, 1:30 p.m. at Hermiston City Hall, 180 NE Second St. This month’s selection is “An Honest Man” by Michael Koryta. Limited copies are available to check out.
The New York Times bestselling author is described as “an exceptionally gifted storyteller.” His July 2023 novel tells the story of Israel Pike who discovers seven men, including a pair of Senate rivals, butchered on a yacht off the coast of Maine. A troubled man, Pike, murdered his father a decade before and is the prime suspect in this breathtaking thriller.
Teens can test their problem-solving skills at the Enchanted Quest Escape Room on Nov. 12, 6-7 p.m. at city hall. Participants will solve puzzles, unravel mysteries and work together to rescue the last unicorn.
In addition, preschool story time is each Friday, 10:30 a.m. at city hall. The program encourages early literacy skills through engaging stories and interactive play.
