Martha V. Cooper Hooker of Hermiston died on Nov. 3, 2024 in Kennewick, Wash. at the age of 90.
She was born on May 14, 1934 in Mosier the youngest child of Conrad and Emma Goedeke Cooper.
Martha joined her siblings, Emma Mae, Willard, Alfred, Nellie and Charles living in Mosier until her family moved to Hood River. She graduated from Wy’east High School in Odell in the class of 1953. Martha was swept off her feet by Kenneth Hooker, whom she married on Sept. 25, 1954 in Stevenson, Wash. From their union they had four children. They lived in Ordnance when Kenneth Jr. was born, moved to Echo, where Ronald and Mark were born, then to Hermiston, where Anita was born. Kenneth and Martha lived in Hermiston until 2023 when they moved to Kennewick, Wash., where they have lived since.
Martha worked many different jobs during her life from fruit packer to waitress and working at the Lamb Weston plant when it was built in Hermiston. Martha loved gardening, sewing clothes, crocheting, crafting, cooking with vegetables she grew in the garden, and jigsaw puzzles. When they retired they loved traveling around the country in their RV attending the many family reunions, as well as trips to the coast and mountains.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth Hooker; children, Kenneth Jr. (Dianne), Ronald, Mark (Leah) and Anita; granddaughters, Jade and Jacinda; step granddaughter, Jasmine; great-grandson, Sylas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law; and her sisters and brothers-in-law.
