In the spirit of giving, River Point Farms and its employees showed their generosity by donating $16,352 on Tuesday to the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation.
“We’ve had multiple people on our team who have been diagnosed with cancer,” Devin Lybbert said.
Lybbert, sales director for River Point Farms, said the company sells pink bags of potatoes each October and donates 5 cents from every sale to the fight against breast cancer.
Employees also gave individual donations during the company’s Pink Days. This year, River Point Farms contributed $15,000 to the Foundation and the employees raised an additional $1,352 to donate.
Liz Marvin, executive director of the Foundation, said the money will go to support breast cancer awareness.
Marvin said the Foundation will be distributing waterproof breast self-examination cards to patients of the Cancer Center, Women’s Center and the Diagnostic Imaging Department. The cards, printed in both Spanish and English, hang in the shower with instructions for self-examinations and circles for each month to remind women to perform the self-exam. The circles are punched out after each exam.
Marvin said the Foundation is also passing out Hope bracelets and compiling care kits for women going through breast cancer treatment.
