Umatilla Electric Cooperative’s recent expansion of its headquarters has provided a unique opportunity to honor its tradition while looking ahead to its future.
During the demolition phase of the existing facility, workers uncovered a surprise – a time capsule from an earlier era of the cooperative’s history. The discovery stirred excitement among current and former employees. Inspired by this unexpected find, UEC decided to carry the tradition forward by creating a new time capsule.
The new time capsule, set to be sealed within the walls of the newly-expanded headquarters, tells the story of where UEC is today and its vision for tomorrow. It includes a photograph of each department’s team. A copy of the 2023 Annual Report, signed by all employees, was included as well as documents showcasing UEC’s accomplishments and standings in the electric utility.
By including these items, UEC said the items in the new time capsule ensures that future generations will have a tangible connection to the cooperative’s present-day endeavors and values.
“The capsule serves as a time-bound message, reflecting the cooperative spirit that has sustained UEC since its inception,” said UEC.
