HERMISTON, Ore.-The Hermiston 8-10 Softball team won the Little League State Championship on July 10.
“I’m incredibly proud of this team,” said Manager Kristin Dunten. “They played hard, showed lots of class and had fun.”
Hermiston went on a dominating tournament run, outscoring their opponents 44-2 over four games in Wilsonville, to bring the title home to eastern Oregon.
After winning the District Championship in La Grande, Hermiston did not lose in the double-elimination State Championship Tournament in Wilsonville.
Led by dominant pitching and an explosive offense, Hermiston’s roster also enjoyed the right mix of grit and fun. According to Dunten, the squad stayed loose by singing “Cotton Eye Joe” before each game, and the players were always there for each other with cheers and encouragement.

After beating Clackamas 13-1 in their first game, Hermiston recorded back-to-back shutouts of South Beaverton and The Dalles by scores of 15-0 and 5-0, to earn a berth in the title game.
In the title game, a rematch with The Dalles, Hermiston turned in an even more dominating performance, despite facing some adversity when calls weren’t necessarily going their way.
“They played a tough game, they showed a lot of grit and class and held nothing back,” said Dunten.
Daniella Ramirez Rosales started things off with a triple for Hermiston, and Piper Dunten followed with a single before Natalie Rodriguez doubled, then Kamila Rodriguez singled and Emeree Seewer drew a walk. All five Hermiston players would score in the inning as the team built an early, insurmountable lead.
Mia Christianson twirled a gem for Hermiston from the pitching circle, striking out 12, while only allowing one run through four innings.
Ramirez Rosales paced Hermiston at the plate with two triples and four RBIs, while Raegan Hudson and Dunten also had two hits each, as Hermiston downed The Dalles 11-1 in four innings for the title.
