Jerry Smith Passes Away at 87

Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Smith died on Aug. 14, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 87.

He was born in Nampa, Idaho on July 15, 1938 to Herbert and Sarah Smith.

He graduated from Nampa High School in 1957 and entered the U.S. Marine Corp the same year. Jerry’s working career began with the Nampa Police Department, then the Union Pacific Railroad in Nampa, Idaho, and continued with the Union Pacific in North Platte, Neb. before he transferred to Hinkle Railroad Yard in Hermiston. After retiring from Union Pacific Railroad, Jerry worked as a custodian at Boardman High School and for the Boardman Parks Department.

Jerry was a member of the Nazarene Church in Hermiston.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; two sons, Kyle (Jana) and Andy (Norma); three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; a sister (Norma); and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, Idaho at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a memorial in Jerry’s name for the Liberty Quartet at Liberty Ministries, Inc. at libertyministriesinc@msn.com.
