BOARDMAN, Oregon -A pool party in celebration of community and health is set for September 27 in Boardman. Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) invites the communities of Boardman and Morrow County to the completely free event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Boardman Pool and Recreation Center.

The pool will be open for free swim, booths will be set up with health information and resources, flu shots will be available, and food trucks will be on-site offering free food at the community event.

“We are excited for this event! We look forward to meeting many community members and organizations from Boardman and Morrow County,” said Art Mathisen, Good Shepherd Health Care System President and CEO. This spring GSHCS acquired 61 acres of land on Main Street in downtown Boardman for a future healthcare facility to serve Boardman Morrow County communities.

“We want a healthier future for Boardman and Morrow County which is why we are expanding services to these growing communities so that they have access to the most essential health care services close to home,” stated Mathisen. “This free Boardman Community Event is as fun way to come together for the common cause of health and wellness.”

From July 2020 to July 2024, Boardman grew from 4,597 residents to 5,749, according to revised population estimates from Portland State University in 2024, growth that will undoubtedly result in an increased need for healthcare services and city amenities.

“To support this growth, the City has invested heavily in infrastructure improvements across key streets, including Columbia Avenue, SE Front and SE 1st, S Main Street, SW Front, and SW 1st,” said Boardman City Manager Brandon Hammond. “Additional upgrades to water, wastewater, and streets are completed, underway, or planned throughout the community.”

Much of Boardman’s recent growth is in the travel and visitor service sectors, according to Hammond, with three hotels recently being permitted and the Planning Commission approving a Circle K and Burger King project.

Boardman is also undertaking a strategic planning process to upgrade its Transportation System Plan, Comprehensive Plan, and Development Code. “The City is partnering with the Boardman Park and Recreation District to develop a Parks Master Plan, ensuring growth is balanced with quality-of-life investments for residents,” said Hammond.

Boardman’s recent infrastructure improvements and community planning endeavors have established a strong foundation for growth in the City. These efforts, coupled with Good Shepherd Health Care System’s commitment to increasing access to care have well positioned Boardman and the surrounding communities for a healthy future.

Boardman and Morrow County residents do not need to register to participate in the free pool party. The Boardman Pool and Recreation Center is located at 311 NE Olson Road.
