David Marvin “Dave” Hughes of Stanfield died on April 26, 2025 in Hermiston at the age of 77.

He was born on July 2, 1947 in Portland to Marvin and Muriel Roush Hughes.

Dave was raised and attended schools in Oregon City. He had a great childhood with many adventures going down to the river near their home to fish and spend the day. He graduated from Oregon City High School in the class of 1966 and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during the Vietnam War with time in combat zones before returning to Oregon City after his honorable discharge in 1970.

Dave worked various jobs before his career as an insurance salesman with Combined Insurance. His territory included Oregon and parts of Washington and Idaho. He enjoyed this opportunity to travel all over the Northwest and met many wonderful people. He settled in Umatilla County, living in Umatilla and Hermiston before moving to Stanfield in 1995, where he had lived since. Dave was united in marriage to Dorie Beckstead on Nov. 27, 1987 in Umatilla. He was the manager at the Hermiston Texaco station for 23 years.

Dave had a great sense of humor with a laundry list of jokes at his disposal and never met a stranger. He was an animal lover above all else, never missing a chance to give a dog or cat some love and a treat or a bird or squirrel treats. Dave loved to fish, work in his yard, barbeque, watch his favorite shows, football and movies, and playing his Facebook games.

A private celebration was held.

Those who wish may make contributions in Dave’s memory to Pet Rescue or Fuzz Ball.
