Gloria Stamate Lampkin passed away on Oct. 1, 2025 at the age of 98.
She was born on Sept. 9, 1927 to Joe and Nellie Stamate in Everton, Mo., where she spent her childhood.
During World War II, her family moved to Vallejo, Calif. to work for the Mare Island Navy Shipyard. Gloria loved living in California, where she graduated in 1945 from Vallejo High School. Following the war, the family moved back to their Missouri farm where Gloria met Wendell Lampkin. After their marriage in 1948, Gloria and Wendell moved to Oregon.
Gloria worked in federal service for over 40 years, beginning with her time at Mare Island. She was one of the original employees when McNary Dam was completed, and she finished her career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Umatilla in 1990. She was a proud member of NARFE, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, both during her working years and after she retired.
She enjoyed family, friends and antique shopping. She was so proud of her beautiful collection of teapots!
Survivors include her son, Mike and daughter-in-law Toni of Stanfield; granddaughter, Heather Lawrence; great-granddaughters, Olivia and Leighton of Bethesda, Md.; her siblings, James, Bonnie, Thomas and John; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a nephew; and her husband, Wendell.
A private family graveside service was held.
The family wishes to express our gratefulness to the Geneva House and Vange John Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gloria’s memory to Vange John Memorial Hospice in Hermiston.
