BOARDMAN, Ore.-Morrow County School District (MCSD) students participated in a technology career exploration event at the Blue Mountain Community College Workforce Training Center in Boardman on March 10.

A total of 26 MCSD students attended the event designed to provide students with practical skills and a better understanding of the job opportunities available locally in the technology sector.

A collaboration between Amazon, the MCSD, and BMCC, several AWS employees who graduated from area high schools and now work in the region, attended the event to meet students and discuss technology careers.

“This program bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world tech careers,” said Benjamin Harvey, Community Engagement Manager at Amazon. “Students leave with practical skills and a clearer understanding of the career opportunities available right here in their community through Amazon and Blue Mountain Community College.”

Students who attended the half-day hands-on experience had the opportunity to participate in mock interviews with AWS professionals, take part in electrical systems training that featured circuit building exercises, and explore data center technician work, including server hardware operations.

“This was an amazing opportunity for our Riverside High School students; this helped them be more aware of local opportunities for after high school graduation and of the support they have from the community,” said Elizabeth Rosen, a Counselor at Riverside Jr/Sr High School.
