HERMISTON, Ore.-Delaney Weiseler, a senior at Hermiston High School, has been awarded the Presidential Scholarship from Oregon State University (OSU).
“We are incredibly proud of Delaney and grateful to the teachers, staff, family members, and community who have supported her journey,” the Hermiston School District (HSD) said in a press release on the scholarship. “Her success is a reminder of what is possible when hard work and opportunity come together.”
Awarded to students who excel academically and are committed to making a difference through demonstrated leadership involvement, the Presidential Scholarship is OSU’s highest and most competitive academic honor.
Recipients are selected through a review process that considers grades, as well as activities, service, and personal achievements. Weiseler is the first Hermiston High School student to earn the prestigious scholarship in a decade, according to the HSD
Only 145 students are selected nationwide from over 3,000 applicants for the Presidential Scholarship, and Weiseler is one of only six recipients from Eastern Oregon to receive the award.
“Delaney’s accomplishment reflects years of dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to challenge herself both in and out of the classroom,” the HSD said. “She represents the values of Hermiston High School and serves as an inspiration to younger students across the district.”
The Presidential scholarship provides $10,000 per year over four years and can be combined with additional awards to reach up to $15,000 annually in support of students pursuing their college goals.
