Vaughn Freeman of Hermiston died on July 4, 2026 in Portland at the age of 54.
He was born on Aug. 5, 1971 in Hermiston to John and Janet Freeman.
Vaughn was the baby brother of five children, born nine years after his brother. He lived in Hermiston until he was 8 years old when his parents moved to Federal Way, Wash. He graduated from there, then went on a two-year mission for the LDS church to Sendai, Japan. After returning home he moved to Boise, Idaho, where he worked for Micron and DIRECTV. In 2007 he moved back to Hermiston to live with his father and his two sisters. There he worked for Amazon and later for the Hermiston School District as an IT tech until health struggles made it impossible for him to work.
Vaughn loved to travel, going on several cruises to Alaska and his favorite, Hawaii. He loved gathering souvenirs and photographs of his adventures. He played the piano and organ and had a beautiful tenor voice. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. Vaughn was a great source for fixing tech issues around the house. His favorite advice was unplug it and plug it back in. That worked most of the time.
He is survived by his sisters and brother, Debbie Freeman, Robin Oliver, Susan Freeman and Vance (Janell) Freeman and his dog, Tucker.
Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the LDS church, 1035 S.E. Ninth St. in Hermiston.
