Richard C. “Dick” Turrell of Heppner passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital at the age of 78 with his daughters by his side.

He was born on July 13, 1947 in Albany to Frederick and Lila Turrell.

He spent his life doing what he loved most: working hard, helping others, and enjoying the outdoors. A farmer and skilled mechanic by trade, Dick had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything. If something was broken, family and friends knew he was the one to call.

When he wasn’t working, Dick could often be found in the mountains. He loved deer hunting and looked forward to spending time at elk camp each year. Whether he was hunting, exploring back roads, or simply taking a drive through the mountains, he found peace and happiness in the places he loved most.

Dick was a proud and dedicated member of Heppner Elks Lodge #358. Over the years he served in every leadership role within the lodge, including exalted ruler. His commitment to the Elks reflected his generosity, leadership, and dedication to his community.

Above all, Dick loved his family. He is survived by his children, Shelby, Powder, Heidi, Molly, and Ben; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his sister.

A memorial service celebrating Dick’s life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 1 p.m. at the Heppner Elks Lodge #358.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heppner Elks Lodge #358 in Dick’s memory.
