UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore.-Moderate weather slowed activity on the Hagen, Horse Ridge, and Paradise Fires yesterday, according to NW Incident Management Team 7.
However, evacuation levels were increased on the afternoon of July 28 in parts of Umatilla and Union Counties due to the Hagen Fire.
The Hagen Fire is now burning an estimated 29,967 acres about 9 miles southwest of Tollgate, Oregon and about 12 miles northwest of Elgin, Oregon.
Growth was primarily to the south and east, with the northern line on Bingham Road holding and only minimal spread reported to the west. Fire containment was contained south of Bingham Road.
According to the daily update from Northwest Incident Management Team 7, a projected containment line is under construction, connecting and clearing brush along existing roads to close off the western, southern, and eastern flanks.

Fire crews made progress fighting the Hagen, Horse Ridge, and Paradise Fires over the weekend.
The Paradise Fire about 10 miles southeast of Walla Walla showed minimal growth on July 26 and is now burning an estimated 760 acres. Fire crews are reportedly making progress building direct and indirect lines to contain the fire.
The Hagen Fire, which merged with the Nine Mile Fire over the weekend, is now burning an estimated 26,879 acres about 9 miles southwest of Tollgate, Oregon.
The fire showed moderate behavior due to the haze over the region and 50,000 gallons of water were dumped on the fire to slow its spread on July 26.
According to officials with Northwest Incident Management Team 7, while the fire expanded to the east and south, with moderate growth to the west, the north perimeter at Bingham Road is holding and mop up operations are ongoing in that area.
Fire crews are now working to locate fire lines with the highest likelihood of stopping the fire from spreading further east and west.
Camp Meadowood Springs announced that it canceled Session 2 of its camp for the summer due to the Hagen Fire.
“This is not the ending to our camp season that any of us envisioned,” Camp Meadowood said in a statement announcing the cancelation. “Our hearts are with every camper, family, volunteer, student clinician, and staff member who was looking forward to making more memories together.”
While the Hagen Fire is now moving away from Camp Meadowood, the camp remains under a Level 2 evacuation notice.
The Horse Ridge Fire burning around 832 acres about 5 miles northeast of Meacham, Oregon is now 60% contained. Firefighters are mopping up along the fire’s edge and patrolling the perimeter of the fire.
Northwest Team 7 and the Oregon State Fire Marshal are in unified command fighting the three fires in partnership with the Umatilla and Walla Walla County Sheriff’s offices, City of Walla Walla, state agencies, and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
