Michael Steven White of Umatilla passed away in Umatilla on July 24, 2026 at the age of 15.

He was born on Dec. 23, 2010 in Hermiston to Keith and Melissa Lesperance White.

Michael lived in Umatilla his entire life, where he attended school and had just completed his freshman year at Umatilla High School. Michael had an extraordinary curiosity and a love of learning. He had a deep appreciation for the rich history of Mesoamerica. He especially enjoyed learning about its ancient civilizations and eagerly shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with family, friends, and anyone interested in listening. He also loved mythology, woodworking and robotics and was always eager to learn something new or create something with his hands.

Music was an important part of who Michael was. He connected deeply with the music of artists such as Queen and the Rolling Stones. Music spoke to him in a way that allowed him to explore, express himself, and connect with the world around him. Through music, Michael found a place where his curiosity, creativity, and individuality could truly blossom.

Beyond his many interests, Michael will be remembered most for the person he was. He had a rare ability to make others feel welcome and accepted simply by being himself. Kind, intelligent, funny, and genuinely authentic, he carried himself with a confidence that inspired those around him. Whether at church, at school, or through the online communities he built and nurtured on Discord, Michael formed meaningful friendships with people from all walks of life. His compassion, humor, and willingness to connect with others left a lasting impression on countless friends, many of whom knew him through a screen but cared for him deeply.

Michael’s kindness, handsome smile, quick sense of humor, and remarkable intelligence earned him the admiration and respect of everyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a gift for being completely himself, and that authenticity made others feel comfortable being themselves, too. His presence brought joy, laughter, and connection to the lives of many.

He is survived by his mother, Melissa Lesperance-White; brother, Dennis White; sister, Elizabeth White; niece, Elaine Drury; maternal grandfather, Dennis Lesperance; maternal grandmother, Sally Kestler; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever changed by knowing him.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be on Aug. 15 at 172 Hamilton St., Umatilla at 2 p.m.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in care of arrangements.
