Denny Stroup Passes Away at 76

Dennis C. “Denny” Stroup passed away on Aug. 31, 2026 at his home in Estacada at the age of 76.

He was born on June 16, 1950 in Payette, Idaho to John and Mary Makinson Stroup.

Denny was raised in Pendleton and graduated high school in 1969. He then moved to Molalla and worked at Avison Lumber Mill for 25 years. He then worked as a groundskeeper at a local golf course for five years. His last job was as a custodian for the Estacada School District, in which he worked for 10 years.

Denny enjoyed spending time with Hazel, his loving partner of 36 years. He also loved watching NASCAR racing and shooting trap. He loved spending time with his family and grandkids.

He was known for being chatty and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He made friends wherever he went and no one remained a stranger to Denny for long.

He is survived by Hazel Alford, Estacada; daughter, Julie Baggenstos (Zach), Enumclaw, Wash.; sisters, Marilyn Cataliotti (Tony), Havelock, N.C. and Darla Burns (Kevin), Hermiston; daughters-in-law, Kandi Anderson (Donald), Estacada and Teresa Phillips, Gresham; stepsister, Jackie Alleman (Don), Heppner; stepbrother, Jay Tracy (Debbie), Hermiston; grandchildren, Jack, Penny, Fern, George, Rosie and Jude; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Stroup.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.
