HERMISTON, Ore.-The City of Hermiston celebrated the completion of the newest amenities at Horizon Park with a community celebration on the afternoon of October 22.
Despite pouring rain, City administration, Parks and Recreation staff, and members of the community attended the celebration and ribbon cutting at the neighborhood park located at 510 E. Bella Vista Avenue.
“For those who watched this area develop it’s pretty cool to see where we stand today,” said Brandon Artz, Hermiston Parks and Recreation Director. “This is truly a neighborhood park, where families can walk, play basketball, and simply be outside. It’s a space to come together and turn neighborhoods into community.”

Built in 2023 in the Legacy Development neighborhood, Horizon Park was developed in stages, with the grass installed in the course of just two hours during an I Love My City event.
AWS and the Arbor Day Foundation partnered to plant trees in Horizon Park in 2024.
The playground equipment and a half-court basketball court were added in the Summer of 2026.

Horizon Park also includes a 0.18 mile walking loop around its perimeter.
Artz went on to thank City administration for its investment in parks, as well as Parks and Recreation staff, community volunteers, and neighborhood residents, before officially dedicating the park, turning it over for residents to use and enjoy.
“For the kids growing up in this neighborhood, this is their park,” said Artz. “It’s where they can play, meet friends, and play basketball – everyday experiences that make investment worthwhile.”
