Edward Montoya died on Sept. 11, 2013 at his home in Umatilla at the age of 75.
He was born on March 18, 1938 in Del Norte, Colo., to Amarante Montoya and Lena Gallegos Montoya. Ed was raised and attended school in Nyssa. He married Josefina Grijalva on Sept. 16, 1958 in Caldwell, Idaho. They moved to the Umatilla area in 1972 where they have lived since. Ed worked at the Ste. Michelle Farm in Paterson, Wash., for 23 years before retiring in the early 1990s. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, puzzles, games and, most of all, time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Josefina Montoya, Umatilla; his mother, Lena Montoya, Nyssa; sons, Edward Montoya and Harry Montoya, both of Umatilla, Rudy Montoya of Virginia, and Rick Montoya, Hermiston; daughter, Priscilla Long, Pendleton; brothers, Lloyd Montoya, Nyssa, Ben Montoya, Dallas, and Bill Montoya, Nyssa; sisters, Sally Rodriguez, Nyssa, Mary Gonzalez, Meridian, Idaho, Virginia Rios, Hermiston, Connie Haro, Texas, and Gloria Martinez, Nyssa; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his father.
