Hermiston Resident, WWII Hero Dies at 89

A longtime Hermiston resident and World War II hero died Monday at the age of 89.

Gerald Clark McCoy died at Ashley Manor Residential Care Facility in Hermiston. McCoy was in the Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines where he earned a Purple Heart.

After his service, McCoy moved to Hermiston in the 1950s. He worked in potato processing plants and in farm labor after the war.

Graveside funeral services with Military Honors will be held on at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at the Hermiston Cemetery.
