Hermiston Man Given 9-Year Prison Sentence

A Hermiston man was sentenced to more than nine years in prison after pleading guilty to a rash of crimes in the Hermiston area.

Jeremiah Isaiah Ayers, 24, was sentenced to 110 months for his role in numerous vehicle thefts and car prowls. Ayers was indicted by a Umatilla County Grand Jury on Dec. 5, 2013 involving two different cases. On April 4, 2012, Ayers pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle, one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, one count of first-degree aggravated theft, two counts of first-degree theft, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, and one count of possession of methamphetamine.

Between August and September of last year, the Hermiston Police Department conducted an investigation into numerous car thefts and car prowls that affect several local citizens. While these cases were under investigation, the Oregon State Police caught Ayers in a stolen Shelco Electric truck in December. The OSP also found property from a house that Ayers had burglarized, as well as a small amount of methamphetamine.

Ayers had been arrested at least 17 times on 63 different charges.
