Umatilla County’s unemployment rate fell a tenth of a percentage point in May, while Morrow County’s rose two-tenths.
According to the Oregon Department of Employment, the jobless rate in Umatilla County fell to 7.4 percent, down from April’s figure of 7.5 percent. The county’s unemployment rate for May was down significantly from a year ago when it stood at 8.2 percent.
In Morrow County, the unemployment rate in May was 7.3 percent, up from April’s 7.1 percent. The May number was 1.3 percent lower than the 8.6 percent from May 2013.
Statewide, the jobless rate of 6.9 percent in May was down slightly from April’s figure of 6.8, but down more nearly a percentage point from May 2013’s figure of 7.8 percent.
The national unemployment rate for May was 6.3, unchanged from a month ago and down more than a percentage point from last year’s figure of 7.5 percent.
