A logging company discovered the skeletal remains of a male near Weston on Monday.

The company notified the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office around 12:45 p.m. of the discovery in the area off Lincton Mountain Road near Highway 204.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area and found the skeletal remains scattered in a 50-yard radius. A forensic scientist from the Oregon State Police Crime Lab confirmed the remains were that of a male. Deputies responded back to the area off of Lincton Mountain Road, with Oregon State Police Forensics, and Umatilla County Search and Rescue aided by Walla Walla County Search and Rescue, and performed a more extensive search of the area. Additional remains were recovered and collected, according to the sheriff’s office. The remains will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Portland for further examination.

“At this time there isn’t really any indication of the method of death, or how long the remains have been in the area, so we will need to have the State Medical Examiner’s Office perform their examination before we know what we are dealing with,” said Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan.
