Joining the movement in Oregon recognizing November as College Application Month, Hermiston School District, along with the city of Hermiston, proclaimed the first week in November to be College Application Week.
Hermiston High School will join approximately 100 high schools and community-based organizations around the state in hosting Oregon College Application Week with events Nov. 3-6. The goal of the week is to assist all seniors as they apply to some type of postsecondary educational option, including certificate programs, two-year degree programs, and four-year degree programs.
During College Application Week, students at Hermiston High School will participate in a variety of college awareness activities, including college gear Friday, Common Application Workshops, onsite admissions by Eastern Oregon University and visitations from Corbin College, Blue Mountain Community College and Victoria’s Academy.
“College Application Week is a wonderful program to reach seniors and convey the importance of postsecondary education,” said Liz Marvin, Project College Bound Coordinator. “The HHS staff also participates and has been challenged to an Alma Mater door decorating contest with bragging rights awarded as the grand prize.”
Oregon College Application Week is a statewide initiative coordinated by Oregon GEAR UP, in collaboration with a steering committee representing the K-12 community, community based organizations, and all sectors of Oregon’s higher education system. It is a participating program of the American Council on Education’s American College Application Campaign. More information is available online.
