Blue Mountain Community College is seeking to fill two vacant positions on its Board of Education for Zones 2 and 5.

The vacancy comes following the Jan. 13 resignation of Doug Voyles (Zone 5) and the Feb. 4 resignation of Werner Buehler (Zone 2).

Zone 2 include Baker City precincts 4, 5 and 33; Baker County precinct 13; Durkee; Eagle Valley; Hereford; Irondyke; Keating; Pine Valley; Sumpter; and Unity. Zone 5 precincts include Helix, Hermiston, Pendleton and Umatilla County precincts 104-109 and 136-137.

Interested citizens in Zones 2 and 5 may apply for the Board position between Feb. 5 and Feb. 26. The BMCC Board of Education is expected to screen and appoint applicants at its regular March 4 meeting. The applicants selected by the Board to fill the vacancies will serve in the positions through June 30, when the current term ends.

Anyone who seeks to fill the positions beginning July 1 will need to file as a candidate in the May 19 primary election, which is the next regular district election for the subsequent Board term. Interested candidates should be a registered voter in the county for the zone for which they are applying, as well as a resident of one of the districts in that zone.

Applicants must submit a letter of interest to the BMCC Board of Education, PO Box 100, Pendleton, OR 97801, by Feb. 26, 2015. For more information, contact the BMCC President’s Office at 541-278-5951.
