The bull riders had a better opening night at the Farm-City Pro Rodeo on Wednesday than they did a year ago when just two cowboys were able to stay on long enough to earn a score.

On Wednesday, Ty Wallace of Collbran, Colo., aboard Bad Medicine, notched the top score of the evening with an 82, followed Brett Stall of Detroit Lakes, Minn., who scored a 79. Marcus Mariluch had the night’s third-best score with a 78.

In the bareback event, Teddy Anthan, Livermore, Calif., had the night’s best ride with an 82, followed by a pair of 81’s by Ty Breuer of Mandan, N.D., and Austin Foss of Terrebonne.

The top score in Wednesday’s saddle bronc event came from Zeke Thurston of Alberta, Canada, whose 85 could be good enough for the win when the week is over. Isaac Diaz was second with an 80 and Tyrell Smith had a 79.

In barrel racing, Hermiston’s Torri Longgood had the second-fastest time of the night with a 17.5. The fastest time went to Callie DuPerier of Boerne, Texas with 17.09. Sherry Cervi of Marana, Aria., was third on the night with a time of 17.56.

Luke Branguinho of Los Alamos, Calif., had the best time of the night in steer wrestling with a 4.4, followed by Matt Mousseau with a 5.5, and Blaine Jones with a 6.2.

In the tie-down event, Caleb Smidt had by far the fastest time on Wednesday with an 8.5. Matt Shiozawa was second with an 11.0, followed by Rhen Richard with a 12.4.

The team of Derrick Begay and Clay O’Brien Cooper had the best time in the team roping competition with a 4.7, followed by Byron Palmer and Monty Joe Petska with a 5.6, and Erich Rogers and Corey Petska had a time of 6.2.

Tonight’s performance starts at 7:45 p.m., with slack getting under way today at 2 p.m.
