The enhanced patrols conducted by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office during the Labor Day holiday, Aug. 21 to Sept. 7 produced 29 additional citizen contacts, 30 citations and one DUII arrest.

The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office only responded to three motor vehicle crashes during the event period, and only one involved injuries, which were minor. None of the crashes that UCSO responded to were alcohol or drug related.

“Umatilla and Morrow counties suffered great tragedies on the roadways recently,” said Sgt. Joshua Roberts. “Our primary goal in working these DUII/HVE events is to remove drivers from the streets that pose a risk to our citizens.”

These events are funded through a grant from the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association. The final DUII/HVE event for this grant period will be during the Pendleton Round Up from Sept. 12-19.
