U.S. Rep. Greg Walden (R-Hood River) will be in Eastern Oregon on Saturday to meet with disease and patient advocates about the 21st Century Cures Act, a major medical research bill passed by the U.S. House to accelerate the pace of cures for deadly diseases.

Walden will be at Good Shepherd Medical Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday to talk about next steps for the legislation, and advocates will share personal stories about how this initiative gives hope to people suffering from incurable diseases.

Prior to that, Walden will be at the Port of Morrow in Boardman at noon meeting with local landowners and elected officials to discuss continuing efforts to ensure the Boardman to Hemingway Transmission Line does not negatively impact local farmland.

Later on Saturday, Walden will make a stop at the Hermiston Agricultural Research & Extension Center at 3:30 p.m. to highlight legislation he helped pass to return the station to local control, and provide the flexibility needed to grow jobs in Hermiston. Walden will also tour some of the research projects underway at the station.
