U.S. Rep. Greg Walden met with members of the Oregon chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to discuss the 21st Century Cures Act, a landmark medical research bill that Walden helped pass in the U.S. House.
Walden said the bill seeks to boost research and spur innovation for breakthroughs that will lead to better treatments for MS – and eventually a cure.
Among those Walden met with were Merilee McDowell of Heppner and Pamila Hussey, a native of Milton-Freewater. Several thousands of Oregonians suffer from multiple sclerosis and, according to Walden, the Pacific Northwest has one of the highest rates of MS in the world.
Walden represents Oregon’s Second Congressional District.
