Day and nighttime construction activities continue in Hermiston along U.S. 395 for the Oregon Department of Transportation’s $3.7 million highway improvement project. Motorists and pedestrians can expect lane closures and minor detours around ADA sidewalk ramps. Most of the work will be performed at nighttime to minimize impacts to traffic and local businesses along the route.
Traffic impacts for the week of April 4 are as follows:
Daytime: Monday–Thursday (7 am–5 pm)
Jennie Avenue Signal
Ross-Brant Electric will continue work on the signal at Jennie Avenue. Signal poles and mast arms have been set. Crews will work to complete the installation of the signal heads along the mast arms and pulling the wiring as needed. Work will be performed on and off the highway with occasional lane closures for both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 395. Typically only one lane will be closed at a time with minor delays near this intersection. ODOT anticipates activating the Jennie Avenue signal by April 15.
Nighttime: Monday–Friday (6 pm–7 am)
Prep work for paving
Houck Construction will begin lowering the manholes and valve boxes in the roadway that will be in conflict with the grinding/paving operation. This work will be performed inside a lane closure and travelers can expect minor delays as this activity continues along the route. This roadwork is expected to begin at Jennie Avenue and progress away from the intersection, both northbound and southbound along Highway 395.
Paving scheduled update: Grinding and paving operations are expected to begin around April 18 (rather than after May 1, as originally planned). The accelerated timing for this work will help keep the project on schedule for anticipated July 4 completion of major activities. All dates are estimates and subject to change due to weather and other conditions.
