Construction update for U.S. 395 improvement project in Hermiston

Day and nighttime construction activities continue in Hermiston along U.S. 395 for the Oregon Department of Transportation’s $3.7 million highway improvement project. Most of the work is being performed at nighttime to minimize impacts to traffic and local businesses along the route.

The project is anticipated to be complete by July 4.

The ADA ramp upgrades are complete and the signal work at the Jennie Avenue intersection is mostly completed. Grinding and paving will continue over the next several weeks. After paving work is complete, the permanent concrete median curbs will be installed at the Elm Avenue intersection to restrict turning movements (where the candle stick cones were installed).

Traffic impacts for the week of May 9 are as follows:

Day Shift 7 a.m.–5 p.m.
Possible minor delays.

Night Shift 6 p.m.–7 a.m.
Monday–Wednesday – Complete the paving/grinding from Theater Lane to Highway 730 (Bensal Road to Theater Lane – in southbound right/slow lane) (Theater Lane–Highway 730 right/slow lane)

Traffic will be reduced to one lane each direction. Signalized intersections will be controlled by flaggers. Expect minor impacts for traveling public.

Thursday – Begin grinding/paving in the median between Theater Lane – Jennie Avenue.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane each direction. Signalized intersections will be controlled by flaggers. Expect minor impacts for traveling public.

Access to businesses: Blue cones and signs will be placed in work zones to indicate access points for businesses.
