I-82 was closed down for several hours as crews battled the fire.
Approximately 3,000 acres burned in a fire at the Umatilla Chemical Depot on Monday and multiple vehicles crashed in Interstate 82 during the blaze.

According to the Tri-City Herald, several buildings on the depot property were burned in the blaze. The depot no longer stores chemical weapons and the incinerator was torn down. The fire, however, torched some of the concrete bunkers where the weapons were once stored.

According to the Herald, the fire may have been started during a simulated artillery training exercise taking place by the National Guard on the depot property

Multiple cars or motorcycles crashed before the interstate was shut down. Three people were taken to the Hermiston hospital and one was flown to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.
