For the second year in a row, the Intermountain Education Service District and the Umatilla School District are partnering to create an opportunity for youth to experience technological advances at the Umatilla County Fair, with a robotics workshop.

The workshop is offered to students entering grades 6 through 9 in the fall. The workshop will be held in Hoeft Hall on the fairgrounds on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a special demonstration day on Saturday Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. on the Coke Stage.

Space is limited to the first 35 kids to sign up and costs $20 per student. On Thursday, students will build, design and program working robots and will showcase their robots at the fair for all to see on Saturday.

Students will not be able to keep the robots, but will get to enjoy the building process and experience the challenge and fun of engineering and manufacturing a working robot.

Registration form s are available at the Umatilla School District Office, 1001 Sixth St. in Umatilla, the Umatilla County Fairgrounds Office, 515 W. Orchard Ave., in Hermiston.

The event is co-sponsored by IMESD and Umatilla FRC Team 4125-Confidential.
