Blue Mountain Community College will feature two Oregon Humanities Conversation Project leaders this fall as part of its Arts and Culture Series, and invites the community to attend these free conversations.

The first conversation is set for Oct. 10, and features Kristy Athens, author of Get Your Pitchfork On!: The Real Dirt on Country Living, and a business advisor for BMCC’s Wallowa County Small Business Development Center in Enterprise. She will lead a conversation called “Good Food, Bad Food: Agriculture, Ethics, and Personal Choice,” which asks participants to think about the impact of their food choices. The conversation will take place Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. in the Bob Clapp Theatre in Pioneer Hall at BMCC’s main Pendleton campus, 2411 NW Carden Ave.

BMCC will then welcome Ann Su on Nov. 1 at its Eastern Oregon Higher Education Center in Hermiston, 975 SE Columbia Drive. Su, a public interest attorney, community activist, and social justice advocate, will conduct the conversation, “What’s In A Label: Thinking About Diversity and Racial Categories.” This conversation, which asks questions related to stereotypes, race as a form of labeling, and using language to increase understanding and connection, takes place at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 in Room 236 at the Hermiston Center.

Both events are free and open to the public.
