The Hermiston Police Department is reminding residents of a safe way to dispose of unused prescription drugs.
The police department has a prescription drug drop box in the main lobby. Any member of the public can bring medications to ensure they are properly destroyed and won’t fall into the wrong hands.
There are no forms to fill out, no signature required and no questions will be asked.
“We do ask that no needles, liquids, or glass products be placed into the drop box,” said Cpt. Scott Clark.
The department received a grant to purchase a prescription drug box from the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) in October 2012. In the first 12 months, a total of 139.4 pounds of prescription drugs were deposited in the box.

Anyone wanting to bring in large quantities of items should contact the police department’s Evidence Custodian Officer Tim Miears to make arrangements prior to bringing them down.
