Joshua Kenneth Herrig of Heppner died on March 21, 2018 in a car accident at the age of 35.

He was born on Jan. 4, 1983 in Bend to Maureen and Craig Herrig.

Josh was raised in Bend and went to Redmond High School. From the time he was 12 years old, he worked his summers ranching in Heppner with his best friend. At age 17, he left home to pursue ranching and it became his lifestyle. He worked for Jon Flynn of Eight Mile Ranch for the last 17 years. Josh could do it all on the ranch, from cows to farming. If you could think up a job, he could do it and do it well.

Ranching wasn’t his whole life, though. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, riding horses (although he wouldn’t admit it), and riding his motorcycle or anything fast and daring. He was a lover of animals, especially his dogs, and many have said that he was kind, always happy, had a big heart, and was always willing to help.

He is survived by his dogs, Hank and Skidder; mother, Maureen McNeill; father, Craig Herrig; sister, Jessica Herrig; niece, Skylar Morton; and grandma, Natalie Coons.

He was preceded in death by two grandpas he loved dearly, Lauren Skeel and Kenneth Coons.

Joshua’s celebration of life will be held at the Morrow County Fairgrounds in Heppner on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at noon. We welcome all in the community who knew him, all friends, and all family. It will be potluck style, so please bring a dish to share with everyone. The dress will be casual. In fact, if you have a terrible plaid shirt and a ratty ball cap, wear them.
