Area residents will be looking for ways to keep cool on this Fourth of July holiday as the National Weather Service is forecasting a heatwave that looks to be anything but temporary.
The high temperature forecast for today is 95 and that will kick off a long string of days in which the high will remain in the 90s and higher. Thursday will be the hottest day of the heatwave with a forecast of 102 degrees. After a minor break on Saturday – when it will only be 90! – the thermometer will be pushing toward the upper 90s and remaining there for the rest of next week.
The weather service is issuing a red flag warning indicating there is a high risk for wildfires in portions of Eastern Oregon and Washington. With high humidity and wind gusts up to 30 mph, the weather service said any fire will likely spread rapidly.
