Boardman City Council Votes to Put $20.3 Million Bond Before Voters

The city of Boardman passed a resolution to put a $20.3 million bond before the voters to finance the costs of water and wastewater facilities.

Boardman officials say the new facilities will ensure reliability in the city’s water and wastewater systems and improve fire flow.

In other city business, the CREZ II board gave the city of Boardman $678,992.04 that has been placed in the general fund and will be appropriated for infrastructure. The board also granted the Boardman Police Department $165,000 that will be used to support the school resource officer and replace hardware for the department’s body cameras.

The city also presented an ordinance to adopt the 2019 Oregon Specialty Code for building codes. Structures that were not occupied, such as cell towers and fences were no longer included in the Oregon Specialty Code. The city is choosing to continue regulating non-occupied structures and the ordinance outlines the structures the city would be regulating. The ordinance had a first reading by title only and is expected to be read by title only a second time and passed at the next city council meeting.

The city council elected Councilor Brandon Hammond as council president for 2020. The city council also voted to re-appoint David Norton to the budget committee with a term ending Dec. 31, 2022 and appoint Alejandro Mendoza to a vacancy on the budget committee with a term ending Dec. 31, 2022. Also, re-appointed are Jacob Cain and Michelle Seeley to the planning commission with terms ending Dec. 31, 2022. The council also appointed Ragina Teneyck to a vacancy on the planning commission with a term ending Dec. 31, 2020.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Boardman City Council has been moved to Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at Boardman City Hall.
