An out-of-state resident currently in Umatilla County for “essential employment” has tested positive for the coronavirus or COVID-19.
Umatilla County Health (UCo Health) is reporting today that the individual, who is in the area temporarily for work, is self-isolating and recovering. County officials say since the individual is not a county resident, the positive test will not be counted among positive cases in the county.
On Monday, UCo Health reported a fifth county resident tested positive for the virus.
UCo Health is coordinating an investigation with the state and local health department where this individual resides. The investigation so far does not indicate that the general public in Umatilla County is at an elevated risk of exposure due to this case.
Close contacts of this individual have been notified and are being assessed by UCo Health in accordance with the OHA investigative guidelines.
UCo Health is continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation as it evolves. The Oregon State Public Health Lab and commercial laboratories that are processing samples collected from Umatilla County residents report all test results to UCo Health daily.
UCo Health will be providing county specific test results including the total number of tests processed on its website www.ucohealth.net and will update these counts regularly.
In alignment with the Oregon Health Authority, UCo Health will be issuing press releases once per day at around 1 p.m. in the event that there are new cases to report.
County health officials are asking residents to call 211 with questions regarding COVID-19. If you are exhibiting symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath, call your primary care provider first to discuss the next steps. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.
Don’t you think he exsposed people where he worked, maybe he stopped at a store over here and exsposed people. Someone needs firedif they aren’t thinking there’s no risk of anyone being infected from him.
If we start firing people for allowing them to work, then we’re going to have a serious economic issue. Most people carry the virus 10-14 days before the symptoms actually activate. Who’s to say he hadn’t been sent home already and that’s where the self isolation started. At this point everyone is EXPOSING everyone.
Our state is a joke. Our governor is failing us with the lack of testing available. We have done 150 tests in Umatilla County and cannot get tests done unless you are sick enough to be admitted to the hospital!!! We are important also! Kate Brown needs to fight for us!!
I don’t want to burst your bubble but the CDC at the Federal level was caught with their pants down on this one. Every state in the Union is begging for Medical materials. So you’d be better off pointing the finger in that direction..
No, the states are responsible for stocking these supplies. After other incidents, many states didn’t restock. And, not “all states are begging fir medical supplies”. The Feds are helping them. Cuomo was screaming for respiratory equipment then in a follow-up interview Cuomo admitted that they had it in their storage but didn’t need it yet. The FDA messed up the testing originally so Trump opened it up to the private sector. Something the bureaucrats wouldn’t have done on their own. The CDC is studying and tracking the strains and there are a few. You need to stop listening to non-journalists and opinionated political hacks with TV shows and comedy hours. Experts matter. Everybody made mistakes. The first mistake was listening to the communists in China when they said it wasn’t airborne. Italy used the testing kits from WHO and they now have 63 doctors and nurses dead many of them experts in their fields. The WHO has not included Taiwan which is absurd. Taiwan a South Korea have had less contagion. They utilize masks regularly due to pollution concerns.
And, what is the reasoning behind not reporting the case because the person is a non-resident. Add a field and report it!
